Capitol police arrest suspect in Trustmark bank robbery
Capitol police officers have made an arrest in connection with a bank robbery.
The Trustmark branch on South State Street was robbed at about 3 p.m. Thursday.
"Officers were told that an unknown male entered the bank and presented a teller with a note demanding money," Bailey Martin with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety said.
The teller handed over about $700, and the suspect left in a vehicle headed toward Flowood, Martin said in a release. A number of Flowood police officers were seen headed east on Lakeland Drive toward Flowood Thursday afternoon.
"We were advised a possible bank robbery suspect from Jackson was spotted in Flowood. We attempted to locate, but were unable to," Detective Sean Haddakin of the Flowood Police Department said.
Capitol police arrested David Barrett, 46, on Friday and charged him with robbery. Martin said the stolen money and the vehicle investigators believe Barrett was driving were recovered.
If convicted, Barrett could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
