The 29th annual Ride for Missing Children is off and running.
The first ride, which took place in 1995, went from Utica to Washington, D.C., in honor of Sara Ann Wood.
In August of 1993, Wood, who was 12 years old at the time, was abducted while riding her bike in Sauquoit. She hasn't been seen since and state police are still looking for her remains.
This year, bikers are going on a 79-mile trek through the Mohawk Valley.
Organizers say the event serves as a reminder that hope for the lost is never abandoned.
"That's a visual message," Dusty Wood, Sara Wood's brother, said. "That's a reason why our bike ride is so different from so many others here in the community. Our mission is to tell you that you are not alone. We ride two-by-two. We ride like a ribbon through the community to wrap around and tell people that we are working to safeguard our children."
