Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud,
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, and Speaker of the House of the People Sheikh
Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe) have expressed condolences following the death of
Sultan Abdiqadir Haji Mahmoud, the Second Vice President of Jubbaland State.
President Mohamud paid tribute to the late Sultan,
describing him as a respected elder who made significant contributions to
peacebuilding, national reconciliation, and the state formation process in
Somalia.
“Sultan Abdiqadir played a pivotal role in uniting
communities and advancing efforts toward national stability,” the president
said in a statement. He extended heartfelt condolences to the Sultan’s family,
the people of Jubbaland, and all Somalis, praying that Allah grant him Jannatul
Firdaws and bless his loved ones with patience and strength.
Sultan Abdiqadir, also known as Abdikadir Haji Mohamud
Lugadheere, passed away Saturday at a hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where he had
been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness in recent days.
His passing marks the loss of a prominent traditional leader
and statesman, remembered for his deep involvement in community leadership and
his efforts to promote dialogue and unity across Somalia.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been publicly announced.
