Four weeks ago, Jack Higginson, 11, was in an induced coma to help him recover from the injuries he sustained following a horrific car accident in Mandurah in late April.

This week, he was reunited with the first responder who ran to help him following the crash.

Jack’s dad was driving the family’s LandCruiser along Old Coast Road in Mandurah when the car was hit by a truck travelling north.

The left side of the car was completely obliterated in the crash and Jack was trapped inside.

Aleiah Green was working nearby at the time of the accident and irrespective of her own safety climbed into the back of the car to help the 11-year-old until help arrived.

At the time of the accident, the local painter said that Jack “copped the brunt” of the force when the truck hit: “I pulled the booster seat out and climbed across the seat.

“I just sat with him, applied a towel to his face until an ambulance got there and just kept talking to him, but he wasn’t in a good way.”

Luckily, medical staff were able to save Jack’s eye which was injured in the crash and he will use a wheelchair while he recovers.

On Tuesday, Ms Green was thrilled to finally meet the boy she calls her “hero”.

The precious moment was documented in a photo showing the beaming pair locked in an embrace Aleiah thought she would never get to experience due to the extent of Jack’s injuries.

“Four weeks ago today I sat in the back of a wreck with a little boy I truly thought was not going to see another sunrise,” she said.

“Today I got to meet him and his beautiful family properly. Jack you are my hero.

“Strongest, coolest and most humble little fella I have the privilege to now know.”

An avid fisherman, Jack said he was keen to get a rod in his hand and back on the water.

Jack was also ready to get back to producing content for his YouTube channel Deep Fish where he documents his fishing and camping adventures.

“He is itching to get back to it and the way he is going it won’t be long,” Aleiah said.
