A Kenyan trailer driver was arrested on Thursday, June 1, following a fatal accident in Uganda that claimed the life of an 18-year-old student.

The 18-year-old student was on his way to Wamatovu Seed School when the driver, inside a Mercedes-Benz Axor trailer, knocked him down.

They accused the driver of reckless driving and speeding, leading to the unfortunate incident.

Kenyans Arrested in Uganda

The driver's arrest came weeks after Kenyan herders were jailed in Uganda for criminal activity.

On April 12, 2023, 32 men from Turkana County were found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison for being in possession of firearms and ammunition.

The Kenyans had pleaded guilty to the crime of being in possession of 31 rifles and 762 cartridges.

On May 24, Uganda President Yoweri Museveni also issued a six-month ultimatum for armed herders from Kenya to stop crossing into Uganda.

"Long ago, I ordered these Turkanas never to bring guns into Uganda. They should come and graze their cattle, minus being armed.

"They, however, did not listen to this. Instead, they raided our disarmed Karimonjong, killed people, raped them, etc. They are said to have raided 2245 cattle from the Jie. They killed our 3 (three), Geologists, 1 (one) Officer and a soldier, that were guarding them. I now direct that this Turkana nonsense must stop," he vowed.
