One of two brothers charged in connection to the death of Arnold Narruhn last year will go to trial Wednesday, while the other is set to plead guilty.
Almost a year ago, on Dec. 11, 2022, brothers Branty Walliby and Jerron Walliby were accused of assaulting Narruhn near New Fatima Mart in Dededo. The brothers were initially charged with aggravated assault, however, they were indicted later on charges of murder after Narruhn was pronounced dead in the hospital days later.
Since then, Branty Walliby and Jerron Walliby pleaded not guilty to the murder charges and have been confined at the Department of Corrections, while their attorneys negotiate with the Office of the Attorney General.
According to the Judiciary of Guam calendar, though, Branty Walliby is scheduled to begin selecting a jury for his trial at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Jerron Walliby, however, is scheduled for a change-of-plea hearing at 2 p.m. Wednesday before Judge Alberto Tolentino.
The Guam Daily Post could not confirm the terms of Jerron Walliby's plea agreement or if he could be testifying against his brother, Branty Walliby, at trial.
Altercation
Charging documents stated Narruhn and another person were drinking alcohol together on a walk home around 4 p.m. Dec. 11, 2022, when they encountered the Walliby brothers.
The brothers reportedly wanted to fight Narruhn and the other man near New Fatima Mart in Dededo, but the second man told Narruhn not to fight them, according to court documents, and told the brothers and another man to go home.
Witnesses later told police they saw one of the brothers beating up another man while two others attempted to help the one being assaulted, the magistrate's complaint stated.
Guam Police Department investigators said surveillance footage corroborated the event as reported by witnesses, but the brothers denied starting the fight.
