President of Peru adds setbacks and remains under siege of criticism

Lima, April 22 (Prensa Latina) The Peruvian president, Dina Boluarte, began the work week today with the dissemination of a new adverse survey according to which her government is deficient, a judicial failure and more complaints that hit those around her.

A survey by the Ipsos company on the president’s administration, which began 16 months ago, showed that 93 percent voted for the option “she is working inefficiently” to solve the country’s main problems.

Ipsos executive Guillermo Loli said the result is due to the perception that the Government is not acting satisfactorily against crime, the rise in the cost of living and corruption, considered in various surveys as the country’s main problems.

The rating given to the Boluarte administration is added to another survey, by the Datum company, according to which Boluarte has a disapproval of 88 percent and an approval of seven percent and negative percentages at all socio-economic levels.

On the other hand, the judicial rejection of an habeas corpus appeal by the president’s lawyers was made public, who asked to annul the results of the search of the president’s family home, an operation that included forced entry because the family members, in Boluarte’s absence, they refused to open the door. Among the results of the operation ordered by a judge are the certificates of authenticity and purchase of an expensive Rolex watch and a gold and diamond bracelet, after which the head of the anti-corruption police unit that led the raid, colonel, was suspended and replaced, Harvey Colchado.

The issue of the use of at least three Rolexes by the president persists in public interest, for which she is investigated by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, and the disbelief generated by her explanation that the watches and bracelet were lent to her by the governor of the region. Andean man from Ayacucho, Wilfredo Oscorima, her friend and political ally.

On the other hand, América television reported that elements linked to Nicanor Boluarte, the president’s brother, and who works with her in the organization of the Citizens for Peru party, were appointed prefects and sub-prefects (authorities of districts and smaller towns) or benefited with state service contracts.

Former Housing Minister Rudencindo Vega denounced the Government’s pressure to dismiss him from the position of president of a housing organization for construction workers, in retaliation for his criticism of the government in a local newspaper.

The Minister of Housing, Hania Pérez de Cuéllar, denies the accusation and maintains that she only reported Vega’s case to the board of the entity, which is tripartite, made up of representatives of workers, companies and the Government, and the board dismissed him.

Vega mentioned, as context of the outcome, that before his dismissal he presented a report on mismanagement by Nicanor Boluarte, manager of the organization, and requested his retirement, which was not carried out.
