Steve Langion is being remembered as a dedicated first responder.

On the afternoon of April 27, longtime Telluride local Steve Langion, 67, lost his fight with esophageal cancer, San Miguel County Coroner Emil Sante said in a death notice issued that same day.

Information in the death notice said, “Steve was surrounded by friends and family when he passed at his beautiful Browns Ranch home. Steve has been The Linchpin at the Telluride Fire Protection District for over the last 10 years. He had his hands deep in the EMS service, deep in the fire service and deep in the HazMat service.”

Steve was a member of both the Telluride Ski Patrol and the Telluride Regional Medical Center.

“Steve has had an inspiring influence on so many of us. Mr. Langion will be greatly missed and impossible to replace. Steve’s love for this area was easy to see, but his love of family, biking and his work here, in that order, were profound,” the death notice said.

Steve Langion is survived by his son Jesse, his daughters Heather and Amanda and his wife Martha (Marty).

Sante said Crippin Funeral Home will attend to his service.
