Jan. 29 Over 9 Years: Nearly 40 Caualties in US-Saudi War Crimes on Yemen

Yemen: The US-Saudi aggression continued its war crimes, genocide, and unjust siege on January 29 in the years 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. Airstrikes, artillery shelling by mercenaries, and internationally banned cluster bombs targeted homes, farms, schools, markets, mosques, bridges, water tanks, and communication networks in various regions of the provinces of Sa'adah, Hodeidah, Sana'a, and Hajjah.

These attacks resulted in over 20 martyrs and 20 injured, most of whom were children and women. Dozens of homes and farms were destroyed and burned, depriving students of their right to education and displacing families from their homes, properties, and sources of livelihood. The aggression intensified suffering, triggered new waves of displacement and sorrow, and exacerbated hardships amidst scarce humanitarian aid and the complicity of an international community that profits from Yemen’s suffering.

Key Details:
2016: 6 Martyrs, 2 Injured in a War Crime Targeting a Civilian Home in Sana'a

On this day in 2016, the US-Saudi aggression committed war crimes by targeting a civilian home in the Qurman village, Atan area, with brutal airstrikes. The attack resulted in six martyrs and two injured, including a mother and her child. Several neighboring homes in Al-Sabeen District, Sana'a, were also damaged. Additionally, Al-Shehab Tissue Factory in Bani Al-Harith District was completely burned down, causing fear, displacement, and increased hardship for local residents.

2016: 2 Injured and Property Damage in Airstrikes on Al-Ond Market in Sa'adah

On the same day, US-Saudi airstrikes hit Al-Ond Market in Sahar District and civilian homes, a hospital, and a school in Wadi Abu Jabara, Kitaf District, Sa'adah. The attacks caused two injuries, widespread damage to properties, and destruction of vital infrastructure.

2017: 5 Martyrs in a War Crime Targeting a Civilian Vehicle in Hajjah

In 2017, the US-Saudi aggression committed another war crime, targeting a civilian vehicle with a direct airstrike on Nashbah Bridge, Bani Hassan, Abs District. The attack killed five people, including two women, and caused damage to nearby homes and properties.

2018: 5 Martyrs, 2 Injured in a Massacre in Sa'adah

In 2018, the US-Saudi aggression continued its war crimes, bombing the home of Mohammad Ali Mubarra in Bani Mu’ain, Razih District, Sa'adah. The attack killed five family members, including women and children, and injured two others. The airstrikes destroyed the home, forcing survivors to flee.

2019: One Martyr, One Injured in an Airstrike on Al-Madlah Market, Hajjah

In 2019, the US-Saudi coalition added another crime to its record by bombing Al-Madlah Market in Bani Halis, Kushar District, Hajjah. The attack killed Yusuf Sha’bin, a civilian selling qat to provide for his family.

2019: Civilian Casualties in Durayhimi, Hodeidah

In another war crime, Saudi-Emirati-American forces bombed homes, mosques, and markets in Durayhimi, Hodeidah, with airstrikes and artillery shells. The assault killed and injured multiple civilians, destroyed infrastructure, and displaced dozens of families.

Durayhimi has been under siege and constant bombardment for months, with residents facing starvation, disease, and a complete lack of basic services.

The ongoing war crimes in Yemen demand urgent global action. How long will the world ignore the suffering of innocent civilians? Will justice ever be served for the victims of war? The pursuit of accountability must continue until war criminals are prosecuted, and justice is delivered.
