State pensioners are being encouraged to claim £8,000 worth of support from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Pensioners can access over £8,000 in government support through Pension Credit.
The DWP posted on X: "Are you over 66? A quick online application could unlock £4,200 per year on average in Pension Credit plus extra help with heating bills including a Warm Home Discount. Apply now."
Besides Pension Credit, this benefit also opens up access to Housing Benefit - £1,000, Council Tax discount - £2,200, a free TV Licence - £171, Warm Home Discount - £150, free NHS prescriptions - £9.90, eye tests worth up to £215, free dental treatment worth as much as £1k and Royal Mail redirection discount - £24. Money Saving Expert clarified: " It takes minutes to check if you qualify, so don't stall, just call. The exact rules of who can get Pension Credit are complex, so we have a simple rule of thumb for those of state pension age (currently 66 or older)."
"If you're single with total weekly income under £218 you're likely to get it. If you have a weekly income of under £235 then you may get it. If you're a couple, both of pension age, with total weekly income under £333 you're likely to get it. If you have a weekly income of under £350 then you may get it."
"There's a higher threshold if you claim certain disability benefits or have caring responsibilities. If this is you, it's worth checking.", reports Birmingham Live.
DWP is set to house hundreds of staff in new Newcastle city centre office block. The office buildings are under construction behind Bank House on Pilgrim Street.

It further stated: "It's NOT automatic so you MUST claim – here's how. You can apply via Gov.uk if you've already claimed your State Pension, otherwise phone the Pension Service on 0800 99 1234 (or the Northern Ireland Pension Centre on 0808 100 6165)."
"You can backdate it for three months, so the quicker you check, the quicker you'll benefit."
