Man arrested after fleeing police in Plattsburgh, threatening victim with knife, police say
A North Country man was arrested Friday on multiple charges after he fled from police following a dispute.
The Clinton County Sheriff's Office arrested 37-year-old Michael Baker Jr. of Peru after a brief pursuit Friday.
According to the department, Baker was involved in a dispute at a business in the town of Plattsburgh, where he allegedly threatened another person with a knife. When police confronted him, he refused to leave his vehicle and sped off, eventually leaving the roadway and entering a series of trails near the former Clinton County Airport property.
Multiple other agencies, including the New York State Police and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Encon Police, assisted in setting up a perimeter around the area and used drones to locate Baker's vehicle on the trails, which had become stuck due to muddy conditions.
Police were then able to locate Baker and arrest him on charges including menacing, endangering the welfare of a child, fleeing from police, reckless endangerment and reckless driving.
He was transported to a nearby hospital for an evaluation and then released.
On Sunday, Baker was also charged with burglary and criminal weapons possession in the incident. He appeared before a judge and was ordered to be released to the supervision of Clinton County probation officers. He is due back in court at a later date as the case continues.
