The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, on Tuesday congratulated law enforcement for the successful operation carried out in the Valley of Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro Rivers (VRAEM), in which weaponry belonging to remnants of the Shining Path terrorist group was seized.

From the War Room against crime held at the Government Palace, the top official stated that this action, carried out by the VRAEM Special Command of the Armed Forces and the National Police, is a significant step, although there is still work to be done.
"We still have a long way to go, but achievements must be recognized; our National Police and Armed Forces are always on the front line, in the streets of our cities, and in the most remote areas of our country," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.
The Head of State called on law enforcement to continue joining efforts to deliver to the citizens a safer country, in peace and free of terrorism.
"Let us continue strengthening this battle against insecurity, against crime, against those who intend to sow terror in the country. We must call things by their name; we are fighting urban terrorism, and we are going to defeat it," she added.
Earlier, the Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Army General David Ojeda, detailed that this military operation was carried out on April 6 in Canayre district, Huanta province, Ayacucho region.
There, a cache was found containing 594 short-range ammunition cartridges, 194 sticks of dynamite, two grenades, a Galil rifle, among other items, belonging to Shining Path remnants.
In light of this, the President stated that unity is necessary in the fight against crime and extortion.
Mrs. Boluarte added that Peru must not lower its guard against terrorism, as there are still groups seeking to destabilize the country and harm the hard-won peace.
"How can we not remember those 20 years when Peru was under siege by these terrorist groups Shining Path and the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA)? Let us never forget how many innocent people, mayors, citizens, and farmers lost their lives, plunging their families into mourning. That dark history, never again for our beloved homeland," she emphasized.
Highlights operation in prisons
Moreover, President Boluarte highlighted the surprise operation carried out in different penitentiary centers, where items such as mobile phones and other devices were confiscated, which —she said— are used by bad elements that disrupt the peace of families.
"This is the kind of work we must do: enter the prisons unexpectedly and conduct a thorough cleanup," she expressed.
