The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, on Wednesday announced that under her government, concessions made to criminals have ended, meaning that those who commit serious crimes will be sent to serve their sentences at Challapalca Prison in Peru's southern Tacna region.

This announcement was made during a new session of the War Room in the presence of Executive Branch authorities, as well as senior officials from the Peruvian National Police and the Armed Forces.

"In our Government, concessions made to criminals have ended; this is a first step, and we must continue. Those responsible for extortion, contract killings, and murders must be transferred to Challapalca, in compliance with due process," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

In this regard, the top official explained that the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) decides which prison criminals should be transferred to. However, for such individuals who cause so much harm, "there can be no justification, and they can only expect Challapalca."

The President emphasized that there will be no more privileges for those who have caused so much suffering to the Peruvian people.

"These criminals, who believe they are untouchable, will spend their days in Challapalca (Prison) so that during their time there, they can regret the harm they caused," she stated.

Likewise, the Head of State announced that as a government policy, the construction of other prisons at more than 4,000 meters above sea level is planned.

"The gloves are off for these individuals, who care little for the lives of good people. (...) We will not allow impunity for these criminals," she added.

Regarding actions taken, the President stated that 5,459 police agents were deployed, conducting 496 operations, in which 217 individuals were arrested (196 Peruvians and 21 foreigners), 51 of whom had arrest warrants.

Additionally, she mentioned that, in support of the National Police, the Armed Forces mobilized 4,470 personnel and carried out 411 patrols.

This event was held at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
