Isaiah Holland in custody as police investigate shooting death of 4-year-old Jrako Castillo
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Lubbock Police Chief Seth Herman says 26-year-old Isaiah Holland was arrested in connection with the shooting death of a four-year-old boy.
After 5 p.m. on Wednesday, LPD was called to the 2900 block of E. Bates St. for what was originally called a disturbance, turned into a report of shots fired.
When officers arrived, they found Jrako Castillo with a serious gunshot wound, in the doorway of the home. EMS took him by ambulance to UMC where he later was pronounced dead.
Holland, including other children and Castillo’s family, were all in a bedroom when the shot was fired. However, Holland left the scene, Herman said.
Holland was later found by Lubbock police and the Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Center around 11:30 p.m. near 45th St. and Ave P. Herman said Holland tried to get away and attempted to get rid of a gun. Police were able to apprehend him. Later, he told investigators he did have the gun at the house and did remove it from the scene.
“At this time, we want to take a moment to remind the public that our hearts break along with yours at the loss of this precious life,” Herman said. “This little boy had his entire life before him and unfortunately he is not here today. At that, this is not only a tragedy but frankly it’s outrageous.”
Herman said this will be an in-depth investigation and it will take time. He said anyone involved with Castillo’s death will be charged.
He said they will take their time to bring justice for Castillo.
“While one person has been arrested ... that does not preclude additional charges from being filed against anyone involved in this tragic event or anyone who attempts to thwart the investigation of this event,” Herman said. “I want to be very clear, anyone involved who had any manner of culpability in this, will be charged.”
Holland is charged with two counts of tampering with evidence, evading arrest and unlawfully carrying a weapon. Herman said Holland does have a criminal history involving narcotics.
Holland was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center and is currently being held on a $270,000 bond.
