Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen on Thursday underscored that the transport strike held today in Metropolitan Lima and Callao region was peaceful, and that those who organized it behaved in a civic-minded manner during the mobilization.

The Cabinet chief said the Government respects the right to protest and guarantees such demonstrations, emphasizing that from the very beginning the Executive Branch had extended its condolences to the families and friends of the murdered transport workers.

"It was a peaceful strike and, in general terms —aside from minor skirmishes in a few remote areas— there was no need for the National Police to intervene to contain pickets," Adrianzen stated.

"Therefore, we welcome this civic behavior shown by the demonstrators and urge them to maintain this approach until the mobilization ends," he added.

The government official also noted that worker absenteeism was minimal and fell within the anticipated tolerance range.

"From the Executive (Branch), we acknowledge the message sent by transport workers, and beyond expressing solidarity, we are finalizing the review of regulations that will have an impact on the fight against organized crime," he stated.

Adrianzen added that these regulations will remain confidential for now and will be announced before the state of emergency period ends in Lima and Callao.

OECD

The Prime Minister highlighted that, as part of Peru's accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Peruvian Government reported full compliance with the recommendations made by the organization in June 2024 regarding regulatory matters.

"This represents a key milestone in strengthening the regulatory framework and institutional capacities," he explained.

Remarks were made during a press conference following a new session of the Council of Ministers.
