UPPER SAUCON TWP., Pa. - A 21-year-old man was taken to the hospital after a crash on I-78 left a vehicle on its side and heavily damaged in Lehigh County Thursday night, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

It happened on I-78 eastbound near the Route 309 South-Quakertown exit around 8:19 p.m., according to county dispatchers. The car went off the Route 309 overpass and onto the eastbound lanes of Interstate 78 below, according to state police Trooper Nathan Branosky.

Branosky said the driver, who was traveling alone, was taken to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.

The car ended up on its side, mangled, against the median. Debris could be seen on both sides of the median on I-78. Multiple police vehicles and ambulances responded to the scene.

The crash closed the left lanes of both east and westbound I-78, Branosky said.

No word yet on what led up to the crash. State police are investigating the wreck.
