ARLINGTON – Vermont State Police report that an Arlington man died Thursday afternoon after his car collided with a tree off Maple Hill Road.

In a media release, Cpl. Travis Hess said that a northbound 2023 Nissan Altima, operated by Raymond Ostrander, 85, of Arlington, left the gravel roadway for an unknown reason and struck a tree.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:54 p.m. near 922 Maple Hill Road, Hess wrote, and upon arrival, emergency personnel found Ostrander trapped in the vehicle and unresponsive.

Arlington Fire Department and Rescue Squad members responded to the scene.

“Once Ostrander was removed from the vehicle, he was transported to [Southwestern Vermont Medical Center], where he was pronounced deceased,” Hess reported.

He said the crash is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Hess at the Shaftsbury state police barracks at 802-442-5421.
