A 75-year-old woman was hospitalized after she was struck by an SUV while crossing the street in Newburyport, according to the city’s police Department.
Officers responded to the area of 232 Low St. at around 3 p.m. on Friday after receiving reports of a pedestrian being struck, the department said in a press statement. They found the woman on the ground with facial lacerations and a “significant” shoulder injury.
A preliminary investigation indicates the woman was struck in a crosswalk by a black Toyota Highlander, according to the release. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
The woman was brought to a hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and her condition is unknown.
The investigation is ongoing, and Newburyport police are seeking witnesses.
