Fitz Bailey pledges transformative leadership as new TCI Police Commissioner

Jamaica’s Fitz Bailey was officially sworn in as Commissioner of Police in the Turks and Caicos Islands on Friday.
His appointment is for a term of three years.
In his address he pledged transformative leadership for the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force.
Bailey during his address described the appointment as not merely a personal achievement, but a national milestone—driven by a collective longing for justice, safety, and stability.
Commissioner Bailey emphasized that policing is a sacred calling rather than just a profession, and vowed to lead not from behind a desk, but from the frontlines—as a builder of trust and a servant of the people.
He also highlighted the importance of unity and mutual respect at all levels of the Force, acknowledging contributions from every role, from tactical and marine units to translators and cleaners.
Originally from Jamaica, Bailey was brought in as a special addition to the Police Force.
He was officially sworn in as Deputy Commissioner on October 7, in a ceremony led by Her Excellency Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam.
A month later, he was appointed as interim Commissioner. On April 10, following a competitive recruitment process, Governor Daniel-Selvaratnam confirmed his permanent appointment as Commissioner.
The leadership post had become vacant following the resignation of Edvin Martin, a retired police chief from Grenada, who stepped down last November after five months in the role, amid speculation regarding his health.
