SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - A Sioux City man was arrested after leading police on a high-speed pursuit Sunday morning.

Twenty-nine-year-old Victor Villarreal was arrested after officers responded to reports of a man waving a firearm outside a home on Rustin Street on Sunday, May 4, at 1:27 a.m.

Court documents reveal officers were told, by witnesses at the scene, that the man, later identified as Villareal, was threatening other people with the firearm.

Before officers arrived, Villarreal reportedly drove away from the scene in a red Buick Century. Documents show that before he left, another witness was able to grab the firearm, keeping it at the home on Rustin Street.

During the investigation, officers found Villarreal driving the same red Buick at the intersection of 42nd Street and Adams Street, making a left turn to go south onto Adams Street.

Documents show that when officers first confronted Villarreal, he reportedly used the red Buick to flee the area, sparking a high-speed police pursuit.

While fleeing from officers, Villarreal turned down an alleyway between Jefferson and Adams Street. During the turn, the red car reportedly drove through the wooden fence of a home on Jefferson Street.

Officers say the section of the fence was destroyed, but Villarreal reportedly never stopped to provide his information to the owner.

Villarreal reportedly fled from officers at a high rate of speed. According to officers during the chase, authorities drove 65 mph just to try and keep up with the red Buick, heading westbound in the 3000 block of 41st Street.

The posted speed limit in this area is 35 mph. Villarreal was reportedly caught by police near the intersection of 38th Street and Cheyenne Boulevard.

Court documents say that during his arrest, he was found to have bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of alcohol. During this time, he admitted to officers that he had been smoking marijuana earlier.

Villarreal was booked into the Woodbury County Jail on a bond of $20,600.
