3RD, 2026. LET’S TAKE A LIVE LOOK NOW AT MILWAUKEE’S HOAN BRIDGE, LIT IN RED TO HONOR FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS. THREE. TWO. ONE. BOOM! FIRST RESPONDERS AND OTHERS GATHERED NEAR THE HOAN BRIDGE TONIGHT AS PART OF NATIONAL FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS MEMORIAL WEEKEND. THEY PAID A SPECIAL HONOR TO MILWAUKEE FIREFIGHTER DORAN KEMP, THE SECOND IN GREEN BAY. PARAMEDIC TYLER KREIDER. BOTH DIED OF CANCER LAST YEAR, WITH THE ILLNESSES BEING ATTRIBUTED TO THEIR JOBS. THIS GIVES US AN OPPORTUNITY TO REMEMBER THEM AND TO SEND THEM OFF WITH RESPECT AND HONOR AND IN STYLE, AND SO YOU CAN SEE IT REALLY. IT PULLS FIREFIGHTERS TOGETHER. IT PULLS US. THERE’S NOTHING YOU COULD DO. THERE’S NOTHING YOU COULD SAY TO CAUSE THE LOVE I HAVE FOR YOU TO SHRINK OR FADE AWAY. THE NATIONAL FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS FOUNDATION, HOSTING ITS ANNUAL TRIBUTE IN MARYLAND. AMONG THE NEW NAMES ON THE ROLL OF HONOR THIS YEAR, FIREFIGHTER GARY EDWIN BERG OF THE NORTH PRAIRIE FIRE DEPARTMENT IN WAUKESHA COUNTY, AND ASSISTANT CHIEF ROBERT A STEVENS OF THE FREMONT WOLF RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT IN WAUPACA COUNTY. A memorial service was held on May 4 near the Hoan Bridge in Milwaukee to honor Wisconsin firefighters who lost their lives in 2024.May 3-4 is also National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.The Milwaukee Fire Department and Light the Hoan partnered with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to honor and remember MFD firefighter Doran Kemp II and active-duty engineer and paramedic Tyler Kreiter of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department.Fire chief Aaron Lipski of the Milwaukee Fire Department, fire chief Matthew Knott of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, family members of the fallen firefighters and others all gathered near the bridge Sunday night. There, a reading of their service history, a moment of silence, and a prayer were all held before the Hoan bridge was lit in red.WATCH: Video of Sunday's service below.Kemp was known for his positivity and dependability. He served the Milwaukee Fire Department for 25 years. Kemp was diagnosed with brain cancer a few years ago. Despite his diagnosis, he continued to work until his health forced him to step away. Beyond his role as a firefighter, Kemp was a loving husband and father.Assistant Chief Joshua Parish, who began his journey as a firefighter alongside Kemp at the fire academy, remembered Kemp not just as a firefighter, but as a beautiful human being."You know, granted, like Doran was a firefighter, but the reality is like he's a beautiful human being and giving that gift of beauty and caring, and enthusiasm and nourishment to somebody else is a great way to honor him," Parish said in a previous story with WISN 12 News.Kemp died from brain cancer on July 8, 2024. He was 44 years old when he died.Kreiter was 43 years old when he also died from complications of cancer. He served the Green Bay Metro Fire Department for 17 years. Kreiter was also a husband and father of three.Among the names on the roll of honor at this year's National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service in Maryland were firefighter Gary Berg of the North Prairie Fire Department in Waukesha County and assistant chief Robert Stevens of the Fremont-Wolf River Fire Department in Waupaca County. Both men died from complications of COVID-19, which they contracted from the line of duty, according to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers also ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on Sunday to honor Wisconsin firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty.
