"The murders in Pataz will not go unpunished!" stated the Minister of the Interior.
He asserted that the National Police is prepared to solve the country's problems and that the unity of Peruvians and institutions will help resolve them more quickly, as it was in the past era of terrorism.
"We are working as we always have. The Police have always solved problems, but we have solved them more quickly when the institutions, the Peruvian people, get involved, that's how we defeat terrorism," he stated.
From Trujillo, where he held a press conference, Julio Díaz said that the police are prepared to address new crimes and criminal trends.
"We are operating; we will have good news in Pataz," he assured.
He specified that when he took office, he made a reconnaissance visit to Pataz, where tunnels that lacked Comprehensive Registry of Mining Formalization (Reinfo), were destroyed.
"We have been working against criminal organizations for 15 days; we have already seen one criminal organization captured," he said.
The Interior Minister also confirmed that this afternoon he will appear before Congress to report on the actions being taken by the National Police against illegal mining and the murder of 13 miners in Pataz.
"Today I will clarify at the national level some operations that are being carried out and will be carried out," he stated.
He indicated that the National Police acted from the first day they learned of the disappearance of the miners and launched a search through the mine shafts until they found their bodies.
He said that in the narrow passages where the mining concessionaire is located, they can move, but there are other inaccessible areas.
"The police, searching 24 hours a day, entered an area where miners work, the door of which was blocked. We entered from another side, and after five days we found the bodies," he said.
Finally, he assured that the government is concerned about the equipment of the National Police and that new supplies have arrived and are being distributed among law enforcement agencies.
