Ventura laments “violent and cowardly attack” on PSP officer at AIMA

“I lament yet another violent and cowardly attack on a police officer at AIMA. All my solidarity goes to him and to all the security forces,” stated the leader of Chega on his official account on the social network X.

In the same post, André Ventura also remarked that “the country needs order and respect for authority.”

In another post, approximately one hour earlier, the president of Chega questioned whether these are “the ‘working immigrants’ that the left wants to bring here, even after they attack police officers.”

“Out of here, now!” he added, concluding with Chega’s campaign slogan, “Save Portugal.”

An official source from the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) stated that an officer on duty at the premises of the Agency for Integration, Migration, and Asylum (AIMA) was subject to an attempted assault with a box cutter by a foreign national.

The PSP reports that the officer suffered no injuries, and the motives for the attempted assault, which occurred earlier this afternoon, remain unknown.

The police further stated that the suspect was disarmed and detained.

The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, also condemned the attack on the PSP officer at Martim Moniz, Lisbon, emphasizing that the authority and security of police officers must not be compromised.
