After Operation Sindoor | Enhance security of all critical infrastructure, step up access control: UP DGP issues instructions to all districts, police units

FOLLOWING OPERATION Sindoor, DGP Prashant Kumar on Wednesday issued a set of detailed instructions to all districts, commissionerates and police units. These include enhancement and upgrade of all critical infrastructure and vital installations falling under the respective jurisdictions.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasised ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order across Uttar Pradesh, prompting the DGP to order immediate compliance from all district, commissionerate, and police units.

The directives pointed out the need for strengthening physical security, surveillance systems, and perimeter defences.

Mock drills of internal security scheme need to be rehearsed, with proper briefing and debriefing, Kumar said in a statement.

All police infrastructure, including police lines, offices, depots needs to be secured and resource audits should be done. Enhanced access control to important infrastructure and installations is key, in coordination with the agencies and units concerned by senior police officers, said Kumar.

Railways, highways movement of army convoys, railway bridges, aviation turbine fuel (ATF) fuel movement for the Indian Air Force  to be facilitated in coordination with Army/Air Force  officers.

Communally sensitive districts will be put on higher alert and deployment in sensitive hot spots, the statement said.

Major oil pipelines, communication lines (towers, OFC cable lines), water supply lines and storage, electricity sub-stations and thermal power plants need to be protected, the DGP pointed out.

The DGP emphasised intelligence collection and protection of notified prohibited places from enemy sabotage and information leak.

Social media platforms would be monitored round-the-clock and quick response is needed on rumour mongering and misinformation.

District control rooms will be on high alert and 112 vehicles would be deployed at strategic places, the DGP’s instructions said.

Senior officers to be proactive and coordinate with district administration, civil defence, Army, Air Force and all stakeholders, the statement said, adding that senior officers would brief about police war instructions to all concerned

Vigilance along the Nepal border would be enhanced in coordination with all security agencies, it said.

In a post on X, DGP Kumar said, “Red alert has been declared in Uttar Pradesh in view of the action taken by the Indian Army on terrorist hideouts under #OperationSindoor. All field units of @Uppolice have been instructed to coordinate with the defence forces and strengthen the security of important installations,”

“UP Police is alert, equipped with resources, and fully prepared to ensure the safety of every citizen of the state. Jai Hind!,” he added.

The DGP also asked for an audit of police facilities and resources stating that security audits are to be carried out at police lines, offices, depots, units, and control rooms.

“Deficiencies must be swiftly addressed. Cybersecurity of police servers and websites is also to be reinforced,” he said.

“Entry protocols at critical establishments must be tightened with proper identification checks and verification procedures,” he added.

Emphasising on close coordination with agencies, he said it is to be maintained with the Army, Air Force, civil defence, intelligence units, and other relevant agencies, adding that senior police officers will oversee the coordination efforts.
