A grieving father in South Carolina spoke at an emotional press conference on Wednesday about his daughter, Logan Federico, who was fatally shot while visiting a friend's home over the weekend.
Steven Federico, Logan's father, expressed his sorrow and resilience, saying, "Dickey, who took my daughter's life. This is from her. You can't kill my spirit."
Logan Federico, 22, was killed in a weekend shooting at a rental property in Columbia.
Federico described his daughter as a cherished, strong, fun-loving individual who was working hard at school and holding two jobs to become a teacher.
"She loved and adored kids," he said.
Authorities identified Alexander Dickey, described by police as a career criminal, as the suspect who broke into two homes on Cypress Street, shot Logan, stole a car, and went on a spending spree with stolen credit cards.
Lexington County deputies arrested Dickey on Sunday after he allegedly broke into a home and set it on fire.
Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook emphasized the collective effort required to apprehend Dickey.
"We talk about fighting for victims, but you've also heard me say before we're all moms and dads, and brothers and sisters. This touches all of us in a way that will never leave us," Holbrook said.
Dickey is facing charges in Forest Acres, Lexington County, and Columbia.
Holbrook added, "He's a true convict and deserves to be in jail for the rest of his life."
Federico expressed his belief that his daughter's spirit will continue to impact others.
"She will live on forever, maybe not physically but spiritually. She will touch people and protect over people," he said.
According to Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon, Dickey is being held at the Lexington County Jail with charges from Lexington County and is being held without bond.
There has been no word on arrangements for Logan Federico at this time.
