A police inspector's appeal against his suspension has been rejected by Luxembourg's courts, marking the latest development in a 2023 abuse case involving four officers at the Gare station.

The Luxembourg Administrative Court has ruled that the suspension of a police officer from Luxembourg City's Gare station was justified, marking the latest development in a 2023 abuse case involving four officers.

Case background

In July 2023, an investigation was launched against four officers at the Gare station following allegations that they assaulted a man inside the premises. All four were arrested, placed in pre-trial detention, and subsequently suspended.

One inspector challenged his suspension in court, but both the first instance and second instance courts upheld the decision.

According to Radio 100.7, the administrative court determined the suspension was an emergency measure, not a punitive action. Judges agreed with then-Minister of Internal Security Henri Kox that the severity of the accusations – which included allegations of torture – warranted removal from duty during the investigation.
