The Village of Croton-on-Hudson Police Department has recently hired two police officers, bringing the number of sworn personnel in the department to 22. This figure represents the highest number of officers in the department since 2009.
The officers, Osvaldo Tovar and Joseph Cunningham, both come to the Croton Police Department from the New York Police Department (NYPD). Officer Tovar, who resides in Yonkers, served with the NYPD since April 2023. Officer Cunningham, who resides in Peekskill, served with the NYPD since July 2022.
The Village Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Officer Cunningham on March 12, 2025, and the hiring of Officer Tovar on April 23, 2025.
The hiring of Officer Tovar also brings the number of bilingual patrol officers in the department to three, which will provide the department the capability to have a Spanish-speaking officer on each tour. The department has a fourth bilingual officer assigned to the detective division to assist with investigations.
