Woman dead, another injured after driving off I-40 ramp in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Around 12:15 Wednesday morning, Greensboro Police, Fire, and Guilford County EMS were all called to a single-car crash at the I-040 East on-ramp from West Wendover Avenue.

First responders say that Erica Trenise Caviness, 38, of Greensboro, was driving a silver Nissan Sentra when she ran off the right side of the road.

The car continued down an embankment and eventually hit a tree.

Caviness was immediately hospitalized, where she died from her injuries.

Next of kin have been alerted to her death.

The Nissan also had a woman passenger who was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
