With their first match in the CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship set for May 30th, the Lady Jaguars have intensified their preparatory phase at the National Training Centre in Providence.
This was disclosed in a press statement from the Guyana Football Federation. According to the correspondence, the team which comprises primarily overseas based and born players, conducted a practice match against the Guyana Police Force, in which they prevailed 3-0.
The Lady Jaguars will compete in Group A of the CONCACAF U-20 Championship, which is slated for May 29 – June 8 in Costa Rica following the official draw. Guyana has been seeded with the USA, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico. On the other hand, Group B consists of Mexico, Canada, Panama, and Nicaragua.
They will open their campaign against the USA on May 30th at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto. They will then battle the hosts on June 1st before opposing Puerto Rico two days later.
Following the conclusion of the group round, the top two finishers in each section will advance to the semifinal stage.
The Lady Jaguars qualified for the CONCACAF U-20 Championship for the second time in their history after defeating Haiti 1-0. Their maiden appearance at the Championship section occurred in 2020, where they reached the quarterfinal round before losing to Haiti.
The eventual top four finishers in the championship will advance to the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
