The Merseyside Police have issued a statement following the apprehension of an individual accused of driving into a gathering of Liverpool fans celebrating their Premier League triumph.


Merseyside Police's statement announced, "We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city center. We were contacted at just after 6 pm today, Monday 26 May, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street. The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained. Emergency services are currently on the scene. We will issue more updates as we have them."

Helicopter footage showed a bird's-eye view of the commotion on Water Street, featuring emergency responders and medical teams navigating a densely crowded area, while bystanders from a nearby hotel managed to film the vehicle involved in the chaotic incident.

Video clips revealed a black SUV barreling down the road, striking multiple individuals, then plunging further into a throng of fans clothed in red.

Continuing its rampage, the vehicle mowed down a cluster of around 20 people before grinding to a halt in the midst of the street, with several individuals trapped beneath it.
