OPEN. BREAKING IN ASHEVILLE A WOMAN IS NOW BEING CHARGED FOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE AFTER HITTING AND KILLING A PEDESTRIAN. OFFICIALS SAY IT HAPPENED MONDAY, JUST BEFORE 1 A.M. NEAR THE 115 BLOCK OF SWANNANOA RIVER ROAD. WE’RE TOLD THE PEDESTRIAN WAS WALKING EAST ON OR NEAR THE CENTER LINE WHEN THEY WERE HIT BY AN SUV. AUTHORITIES SAY THE PEDESTRIAN DIED AT THE SCENE. POLICE SAY THEY ARRESTED AND CHARGED THE DRIVER OF THE SUV, 22 YEAR OLD ALYSSA FARMER, WITH DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE.

A pedestrian was hit and killed Monday morning by a driver who was under the influence, according to Asheville police.Police said the crash happened about 12:45 a.m. on Swannanoa River Road.The preliminary investigation shows a pedestrian walking east on Swannanoa River Road was on or near the centerline of the roadway when they were hit by a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander.The pedestrian died at the scene. Their name has not been released. The driver of the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander, Alyssa Rain Farmer, 22, was charged with driving while under the influence.
