The drugs were found inside a pickup truck whose driver tried to run away in La Paloma resort, Rocha department.
The police launched the operation after receiving information from “various sources” about three vehicles driven by Brazilians who were traveling “with suspicious behavior” through San Antonio resort, several kilometers east of La Paloma.
The suspects changed their routes upon seeing the checkpoint set up on Route 10, but one of the vehicles crashed into the stairs of a bank branch and was detained.
Inside the truck, agents found 309 packages of hashish, a narcotic derived from cannabis.
According to the news program Telenoche, the value of the drugs is around $600,000.
Another vehicle was seized in La Paloma, and a third at the entry checkpoint to El Chuy customs office, a border town between Uruguay and Brazil.
