State Fire Marshal investigating deadly fire in Jackson County

JACOB, Ill. (KFVS) - The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a deadly fire in Jacob that happened two weeks ago.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 8:25 a.m. on Thursday, May 15 to a house fire at 60 W. Jacob Road.

When they arrived, deputies reported finding the home engulfed in flames.

Crews from several fire departments battled the fire.

The sheriff’s office reports that 49-year-old Amy Hickman died in the fire.

On Thursday, May 29, 2025, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office announced their office and the Illinois State Fire Marshal are investigating the sequence of events relating to the fire.

No other details have been released.

Crews with the Murphysboro Fire Department, Murphysboro-Pomona-Somerset Fire Protection District, Gorham Fire Department, Tower Rock Fire Department, Ava fire Department, Campbell Hill Fire Department, Jackson County Ambulance Service and Jackson County Coroner’s Office have assisted with the case.
