Romanian tourist visiting Inverness from France had drugs and cash in vehicle’s ‘hidden compartment’





A Romanian drug dealer will return overseas after he is released from a seven-month prison sentence imposed at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Gheorghe Mois, of no fixed abode, appeared by video link before Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald after previously admitting possessing 11g of cocaine with a street value of around £1100 in Kessock Road on April 8.

The sheriff backdated his sentence to April 9 when the 33-year-old was remanded in custody.

Fiscal depute Sophie Marshall told the court that police stopped his vehicle and saw signs of drug misuse and there was a strong smell of cannabis.

"He was searched and £370 in cash was found and nine grams of the drug in a hidden compartment near his front seat," she said.

Defending, Kevin Hughes said: "He lives with his brother in France and was on an extended holiday in Scotland. It is his intention to return to his own country when he completes his sentence. He has learned his lesson."
