He calls himself a kind-hearted gentle giant, meet Patrick awaiting adoption
A teen boy living in foster care calls himself a kind-hearted, gentle giant.
Seventeen-year-old Patrick lives in a group home right now and is in need of a family to support him and his future endeavors.
Patrick is on his way to becoming a full-time firefighter. He is currently a junior firefighter in his hometown, and the Children's Home Society of North Carolina planned a special day for him at the Millers Ferry Fire Department in Salisbury with WXII 12’s Audrey Biesk.
“I’ve been around firefighters since I was a little kid. I started being a junior for a different station when I was 14 and have been into it since then,” Patrick said. “I do a lot of learning and training and watching what they do.”
Patrick added how important it is to stay calm and take deep breaths as a firefighter arriving to a scene.
When asked how Patrick describes himself, he said, “Calm, collective, funny and I like to make jokes. Overall, I am just a cool person to hang out with, you know, I like to make jokes and I like to be outside.”
Patrick also enjoys being a role model to those younger than him. His recruitment team at CHS said he cares deeply about his family and friends’ well-being and enjoys calling to check on people he cares about. Patrick is most successful when he receives support with school, maintains therapy and has plenty of positive attention and activities to engage in.
“Someone who will support me,” Patrick said when he thinks about what he needs in an adoptive family. “Someone you can count on and actually cares."
