A one-year-old baby girl is recovering in hospital after suffering "serious" and "life-changing" injuries in a dog attack in Manchester.
Emergency services, including the air ambulance and officers from the Greater Manchester Police's Tactical Dog Unit and Tactical Aid Unit, were called to Baslow Road in Denton, Tameside shortly before 6pm on Thursday after receiving reports of a serious incident.
The toddler was airlifted to Manchester Royal Infirmary alongside two adults - a 21-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man - who were also caught up in the incident on Thursday evening.
The incident happened inside a property, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
GMP said the baby is still receiving treatment for 'serious and life-changing' injuries to her face. The man and woman also sustained wounds that were 'serious but not life-changing.'
The dog was safely detained at the scene and seized by specialist officers before it was 'humanely destroyed' in the interest of public safety.
An investigation is now underway.
Detective Superintendent Gareth Jenkins said on Friday: "This was an awful attack that has left a one-year-old girl with serious and life-changing injuries. Her family are understandably incredibly distressed by what happened here last night.
"The family of the young girl are being supported by officers as she recovers in hospital."
