Which defiant message did Samidoh send?

The crooner landed in hot water after a video surfaced on social media showing him leading revellers in chanting "wantam" during a performance.

The word connotes one term, a phrase coined by former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, alluding to President William Ruto being ousted after his first term in office.

Samidoh's conduct is reported to have violated police regulations, prompting concern from his superiors.

According to reports, senior officials at Jogoo House took note of the circulating video and initiated disciplinary proceedings.

As a consequence, he was reassigned from the Central Region Police Headquarters to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) based in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

Addressing the press on May 28, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja touched on Samidoh's transfer but didn't delve into details.

Kanja said all civil servants are redeployed, and the singer, being a police officer, was no exception.

In addition to the transfer, Samidoh is now subject to a formal disciplinary investigation. Depending on the outcome, possible repercussions include a warning, fine, demotion, or even dismissal, with the final decision resting with Inspector General Douglas Kanja.

On Thursday, May 29, Samidoh shared a photo indicating he was in Bristol, in the United Kingdom. The artiste donned grey and black sweatpants and sneakers and flashed his signature smile at the camera. Behind him was a British police vehicle.

Samidoh shared a revolutionary quote by Thomas Jefferson, saying:

"When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty!"

Numerous Kenyans encouraged the singer to quit the police force and focus on his music career or join politics.

Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, political activist Jane Mwangi said Samidoh’s actions highlighted the risk public officers face when mixing personal beliefs with professional duties.

"Samidoh's quote reflected a historical principle where citizens were morally obligated to oppose laws or systems that perpetuate injustice. But in the context of law enforcement, sharing it publicly blurs the lines between duty and dissent," she told TUKO.co.ke.
