A 46-year-old man is in custody. He is being charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. Additional charges are pending.

Adams said police believe there are no other suspects involved in the shooting.

Officials will be at the scene for an extended period as the investigation continues.

Community members are being asked to avoid the area.

Adams said Columbia Police is asking for anyone with additional information about the shooting to contact them at 931-560-1670 or by reaching out to the Columbia Police Department Facebook Page.

“The Columbia Police Department extends its thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims and all who were impacted by this tragic incident,” CPD said.

Neighbors in the Grove Park neighborhood say it’s a very quiet and tight-knit community.

“I mean, it’s a beautiful little outlet,” neighbor Brenda Holsinger told WSMV. “Everybody knows each other here, especially Halloween and the holidays, everybody gets together and have fun. All of our kids play together. We all get to say hi to each other when we drive by them. We all look out for each other.”

She says the children in the neighborhood were her first thought when she heard about the shooting.

“When we heard about it, we honestly were just hoping and praying there was no children involved,” Holsinger said. “We feel bad because this is our neighborhood, and right here, as you can see, the little ones all play together. My grandchildren play together here, and all of our kids have fun here, and to know that that happened, it’s unfortunate.”

Columbia’s Mayor Chaz Molder said this about the incident:

“Praying for the families impacted by today’s tragic shooting in north Columbia. Follow Columbia Police Department, Tennessee for continued updates. Keep everyone, especially the loss of life, in your prayers. And let’s show the world this is not who we are as a community. And no isolated incident like today will change that."
