On the night of June 1, Russia carried out a series of missile and drone attacks on several Ukrainian cities. Explosions were heard in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and the Zaporizhzhia region, causing concern among the population.
In Zaporizhzhia, one person was injured as a result of the shelling, and critical infrastructure facilities and private homes were damaged. The head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, reported that the city was attacked by at least seven Shahed kamikaze drones. There is currently no information about the consequences of the attacks in Kyiv and Kharkiv.
A tragic incident occurred in Russia’s Bryansk region – a bridge collapse that resulted in seven deaths and 66 injuries, including three children. The regional governor, Alexander Bogomaz, stated that the event happened on a single-track section between Pilshino and Vygonichi at 22:44 Moscow time. The locomotive and several train cars traveling from Klimovo to Moscow derailed. Eleven ambulance teams, including a pediatric intensive care unit vehicle, were dispatched to the scene.
The Moscow Interregional Transport Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the damage to the railway infrastructure, while the Russian Investigative Committee is probing the circumstances of the bridge collapse.
The Swedish government is tightening control over the Russian “shadow fleet” – outdated ships with unclear ownership structures used to circumvent sanctions. Starting July 1, the Swedish Coast Guard and Maritime Administration will begin collecting insurance data not only on vessels entering Swedish ports but also on those passing through the country’s territorial waters and exclusive economic zone.
“We believe this will have a deterrent effect on vessels that are part of the Russian shadow fleet and will also provide a basis for taking other measures, such as sanctions against a larger number of ships.”
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson emphasized that the government is preparing for potential issues in the Baltic Sea, highlighting the importance of obtaining information about vessels for further sanctions.
“This also provides Sweden and our allies with important information about vessels that can be used as a basis for sanctions against a larger number of shadow fleet ships.”
