Congressman Don Davis who represents North Carolina's 1st congressional district is urging the town of Snow Hill to reconsider its recent decision to disband its police department. This week, town leaders voted 3-2 to dissolve the department and instead contract with the Greene County Sheriff's Office for law enforcement services.

Davis, who previously served as mayor of Snow Hill and still resides in Greene County, expressed his concerns about the decision.

"Nearly 15 years ago, the Snow Hill Police Department was formed to improve public safety, protect residents, and allow everyone to feel more secure in their homes, businesses, and neighborhoods," said Davis. "Dedicated police officers on patrol enforce the law, foster trust within the community, and promote a sense of pride. I strongly urge town officials to reverse course, reconsider their decision, and keep the Snow Hill Police Department intact."

The decision to disband the department has sparked debate within the community, with some residents and officials questioning the impact on local safety and community relations.
