Officials have confirmed that two people have died and more than 420 have been arrested after riots broke out in Paris last night.

The chaos broke out close to Paris Saint Germain's home stadium as fans gathered to watch their club in the Champions League final. PSG fans had earlier celebrated their sides opener against Inter Milan outside Parc des Princes, where a fanzone had been set up for fans unable to attend the match in Munich. Several reports showed rioting and claimed around 200 people were arrested – which has now doubled.

According to reports, celebrations following PSG's victory left two dead last night. In the area of Dax, a 17-year-old boy died after being stabbed in the chest. The suspect is currently on the run.

In the 15th arrondissement of Paris, a 20-year-old woman riding a scooter also lost her life after being hit by a vehicle carrying supporters.

This morning, the centre of Paris appeared derelict after debris from flares and the riots after the chaos died down.

Horror footage on social media showed baton-wielding cops clashing with rioting youths in the city, near where thousands of fans had gathered. Roads around the stadium had been blocked off to allow the game to be screened to fans before trouble flared on Saturday evening.

Flares were also let off by fans, which led to fire engines being rushed into the scene from several angles. However, Paris wasn't the only city where tensions erupted after PSG's Champions League victory.

In Alençon, a vehicle crashed into the window of an insurance company. The building had to be evacuated, and one apartment was destroyed, but no injuries were reported. The 18-year-old driver was questioned under the voluntary hearing system.

In Poitiers, a police car was targeted by around fifty individuals. The police managed to escape. Adding to this, stores were damaged in Annemasse, Pau, and Nantes.

In Paris, riot police charged at huge crowds and deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd near the stadium. Elsewhere in the city, crowds were seen running across the Ring Road in Paris and blocking traffic.

When a mobile police unit was deployed to disperse them, it was forced to retreat after missiles were thrown and the crowds clashed with cops.

One shocking social media video shows police officers dragging a balaclava-clad man on the road as huge crowds throw missiles at them. Social media users reported seeing police also charging toward crowds on the Champs-Élysées, where another fanzone was being held.

France's interior minister Bruno Retailleau said in a statement on social media: "True PSG fans are getting excited about their team's magnificent performance. Meanwhile, barbarians have taken to the streets of Paris to commit crimes and provoke law enforcement.

"I have asked the internal security forces to react vigorously to these abuses. I offer my support to the Police Prefect and all the police officers who are ensuring everyone's safety this evening. It is unbearable that it is not possible to party without fearing the savagery of a minority of thugs who respect nothing."
