State Police arrest 16-year-old for making false kidnapping report

A 16-year-old female was arrested in Columbia County on Thursday for making a false kidnapping report to police.
New York State Police say they responded to a 911 call for a report of a possible kidnapping in the Town of Stockport.
Officials say the 16-year-old caller claimed a 13-year-old female was abducted by unknown individuals in a white van on Atlantic Avenue.
A search was immediately conducted by New York State Police, members of the Livingston Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Following the search and associated investigation, no such vehicle or victim were located and the 16-year-old admitted that the report was fabricated, said police.
State Police say the 16-year-old was arrested and charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident.
She was issued a family court appearance ticket returnable to the Columbia County Family Court on June 17 at 9 a.m.
Police say there is no ongoing threat to the community.
