Another absolutely violent hit for Alex Bowman in the NASCAR Cup Series. This time, head-on into the wall at Michigan. Bowman has previously dealt with a concussion issue as well as a broken back in the last few years. Bowman was able to walk to the ambulance after exiting his car.

NASCAR threw the red flag after this wreck. Cole Custer, Daniel Suárez, Chase Briscoe, and Austin Cindric were all officially involved in this wreck with Alex Bowman. Cautions produce cautions, and this wreck came off of a yellow flag restart following spins by John Hunter Nemechek and Noah Gragson a few laps prior.

On the radio, Bowman was asked if he was alright. His response was telling. “That one was really f***ing big,” Bowman told his team. The safety team made it out to Bowman quickly.

This wreck was so big, it lifted Alex Bowman’s 48 car off all four wheels. You never want to see these perpendicular hits into the wall.

Alex Bowman left the infield care center and appears to be fine. Still, that was one nasty hit that he won’t soon forget.

Alex Bowman reacts to massive hit at Michigan

Michigan is the fastest track in the sport. These cars are going 200 MPH without a draft. When they get loose or tight, bad things happen quickly. Alex Bowman recalled the wreck after leaving the care center.

“Yeah, that hurt a lot. Probably top of the board on hits I’ve taken, and unforutnately, I’ve taken a lot of hits,” Bowman said. “So, hate that for the Ally 48 team, obviously, Ally’s from here.

“Yeah, it looks like, I don’t know, the 41 got loose or the 2 got into him or something. Then, yeah, at that point you’re just along for the ride. Coudln’t really do anything except think about, ‘Oh shit, this is about to hurt really bad. Yeah, hate that for our team, and it’s been a rough two months. So, just gotta keep digging.”

Another hit in the points for Bowman. Today was not ideal.

“I mean, honestly, we were pretty decent yesterday [in practice], I thought. We fell off too much on the long run, but I was pretty optimistic about today. We completely missed it to start the race, and obviously, you know, we got super loose and just had long pit stops making adjustments, trying to make it better, and never really got a chance to race again after that.

“Confident that my guys would have got the car better and we could have got back up through there but unforutnately when you get in the back like that, shit gets pretty crazy and stuff like that happens.”
