Ivy Tech Bloomington honored with three Indiana CTE Excellence Awards

BLOOMINGTON– Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington has been recognized with three 2025 Indiana Awards for Excellence in Career and Technical Education (CTE), presented by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education in May.

The college, in collaboration with the City of Bloomington Fire Department and the Monroe Fire Protection District, received an Award for Outstanding Postsecondary Partnership for their new Fire Sciences Academy program. This program provides firefighters in training with practical experience, Ivy Tech credentials, and a direct pathway into fire service careers.

The Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management program earned an Award for Outstanding Postsecondary Program of Study. This program prepares students for careers in food service and hospitality through hands-on experience at the campus’s student-run restaurant, coffee shop, lunch service, and internships at French Lick Resort. Both the culinary, baking, and pastry programs hold accreditation from the American Culinary Federation.

Additionally, recent graduate Anthony Shields was honored with an Award for Excellence in the Postsecondary Student category. Shields earned an associate degree in cloud technologies and plans to transfer to Western Governors University to pursue his bachelor’s degree in the same field.

“These incredible achievements are a direct result of the outstanding leadership of Deans Sarah Cote and Chris Caroll, along with Department Chairs Stacy Strand, Rodney Taylor, Jason Endris, and Nick Laplante,” said Martin Wolfger, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. “Their unwavering dedication, innovation, and commitment to excellence continue to set a high standard for Ivy Tech Bloomington.”

These state awards recognize CTE students, programs, partners, and counselors who demonstrate excellence and exemplify the opportunities within career and technical education.
