Michigan State Police Troopers Association votes ‘no confidence’ in State Police leaders

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Michigan State Police Troopers Association (MSTPA) has voted “no confidence” in State Police leadership. That’s according to a letter sent by the MSPTA president.
The vote was performed simultaneously alongside the Michigan State Police Command Officers Association (MSPCOA). Both groups voted No Confidence in their leadership.
According to the letter, State Leadership initially challenged the results of the vote, resulting in the orgs arranging for anonymous electronic voting.
Members were asked if they had confidence in the leadership of Colonel James Grady and Lt. Colonel Aimee Brimacombe. Both orgs had over 75% of their membership respond. Over 90% of MSPCOA voted ‘no,’ and 98% of MSPTA voted ‘no.’
“The combined results confirm an overwhelming majority of enlisted members have no confidence in your ability to lead the Michigan State Police,” a letter to State Police leadership reads.
“Clearly, you have lost the support of your essential employees. Moreover, you are no longer able to achieve the Department’s mission and philosophy of leadership...”
Both groups called for State Police leadership to resign from their posts.
In response, MSP sent a statement to News 10, saying:
“Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. James F. Grady II and his leadership team provide unwavering support to department members and are proud of the public safety services delivered every day to the public and our law enforcement partners across the state.
“It has been a priority for Colonel Grady to conduct in-person visits to MSP worksites to listen to member feedback. During these visits, he’s engaged in meaningful conversations, including seeking input from the membership about morale and opportunities for areas of improvement. Under Colonel Grady’s leadership, the department has continued to invest in better training and professional development opportunities, updated equipment and improved technology. Further, dozens of new troopers joined the ranks last month and this year’s proposed budget includes pay raises for troopers and sergeants.
“Colonel Grady remains committed to supporting the dedicated, hardworking men and women of the MSP and is focused on moving the department forward while maintaining the department’s proud tradition of service through excellence, integrity and courtesy.”
