A driver under the age of 18 is facing criminal citations in connection with a fatal crash that killed a bicyclist in Massachusetts on Monday afternoon.
The crash happened around 12:44 p.m. on June 9, in the area of 120 S. Main St. in Bellingham, according to police.
The bicyclist, who was a 60-year-old man from Woonsocket, Rhode Island, was found at the scene with severe injuries. He was brought to Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket and was later pronounced dead.
The driver, a minor from Sutton, stayed at the scene after the crash and was brought to Milford Regional Medical Center, Bellingham police said.
After an initial investigation, the minor was issued a criminal citation in connection with the fatal crash with the offenses of motor vehicle homicide, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violation, according to the department.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing and being conducted by local police with assistance from the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Accident Reconstruction unit and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
