SUMNER (WGME) -- The Oxford County Sheriff's Office says a major crash involving a dump truck and a motorcycle in Sumner closed a road for several hours on Wednesday.

At around 4:12 p.m., police say a dump truck was sitting on Redding Road when a motorcycle tried to speed around and ended up crashing.

The motorcycle driver was reportedly seriously hurt but is expected to live.

The driver of the dump truck, a 46-year-old Sumner man, reportedly applied a tourniquet to the motorcyclist. Authorities say this probably saved his life.

Authorities say Buckfield Rescue took the motorcyclist to LifeFlight, which flew him to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The crash is currently under investigation, and speed and alcohol may have contributed.

It closed Redding Road for several hours.
