SWANTON, Ohio (WTVG) - A driver is in critical condition after a crash on the Ohio Turnpike Thursday that shut down traffic Thursday afternoon.

Troopers said it happened in Fulton County near the Lucas County line around 2:15 p.m. Thursday near milepost 47.9 eastbound. A semi truck was stopped in the eastbound lanes for a previous crash when a pick up truck hit the rear end of the semi.

The driver of the pick up truck, a man from Stahltown, Pennsylvania, was air lifted to an area hospital for life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi wasn’t hurt.

Ohio State Highway Patrol says both eastbound lanes and westbound lanes were closed for just under an hour. Numerous agencies responded.
