The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued new travel advice for several countries including the UAE, Tunisia, Qatar, Oman, and Jordan. The updates, announced on Friday, June 13, aim to ensure the safety of British nationals travelling to or currently in these regions.
Specifically regarding Jordan, the FCDO warned: "Following recent developments in Israel, Lebanon, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, the security situation could change suddenly. At 09:30am on 13 June official sirens sounded in Jordan warning people to stay indoors due to the risk of falling debris in anticipation of further exchanges between Israel and Iran, reports Plymouth Live.
"At 12:00 official announcements said the immediate State of Alert was over, but advised people to remain alert. If missiles are intercepted in Jordanian airspace, this may result in falling fragments and debris. If you encounter any projectile debris or fragments you should move away from them immediately and contact local authorities."
Additionally, the update included information that Queen Alia International Airport had been closed as of 10.30am on June 13, leading to flight cancellations and diversions. Travellers affected by these changes are advised to directly contact their airlines and heed the guidance of local authorities.
Holidaymakers are being urged to exercise caution with the Foreign Office updating its travel advice, notably stating: "If you are not yet in country, you should check with airlines and travel insurers before making any travel plans. In addition, there are reports of closures of the King Hussein/Allenby bridge crossing between Jordan and the West Bank.
"You should be aware of the risk of closures of the borders between Jordan and Israel and the West Bank, as well as possible road closures within Jordan, with no notice. Monitor this travel advice and other media as the situation is changing fast."
For those planning visits to the UAE, Egypt, Tunisia, Qatar, and Oman, the advice reads: "Ongoing hostilities in the region and between Israel and Iran could escalate quickly and pose security risks for the wider region. You should monitor local and international media for the latest information [and] be vigilant and follow the instructions of local authorities."
