SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — As part of a country-wide movement, protestors in Springfield and Decatur brought out their signs and took to the streets for a 'No Kings' rally.

These are opponents of President Donald Trumps agenda, following days of of nationwide demonstrations against federal immigration raids, including in Los Angeles

Thousands of Illinoisans marched through downtown Springfield and hundreds gathered outside the Decatur Civic Center.

Joshua Leingang, a protest organizer in Springfield, explained the purpose of their No Kings protest.

"We want to send a message to Donald Trump that says 'you are not welcome with your dictatorship.' We are sending a message to Congress, 'It is time to invoke the 25th amendment: impeachment.' If Congress is not going to do the job -- regardless of a Democrat or Republican, independent or Green Party -- We will vote you out. This is our country and we stand for the Constitution." he said.

Another organizer, Tara Bergschneider said she felt humbled by how many people from her community showed up.

"It reminds me that people are good. And now we're going to be okay. It might get worse, but we are going to just keep getting stronger." she said.
